Duties: Lead APP - Critical Care Medicine (Nocturnist)
Lead a section of Advanced Practice Practitioners (Physician Assistants and/or Nurse Practitioners) by following established guidelines to assure delivery of patient care consistent with regulations and organizational goals. Contribute to performance improvement activities by providing support and resources to improve patient outcomes. Participate in the education of students, residents, and fellows. Provide comprehensive health care to individuals in an inpatient ICU setting. Diagnose and treat critically ill patients on the following services: Critical Care Medicine (CCM White, CCM Red). Accurately diagnose and treat critical illness in patients with sepsis or severe infection, medication and drug overdose, respiratory failure, acute stroke, and other neurological conditions. Initiate treatment and manage care for patients requiring ventilatory support in patients with complex pulmonary conditions. Perform and assist with diagnostic and therapeutic medical and/or surgical procedures.
Required Qualifications: Lead APP - Critical Care Medicine (Nocturnist)
Minimum of 18 months of clinical experience as an Advance Practice Provider in a related health care setting required; and current, unrestricted licensure as a Physician Assistant in the State of Nebraska (or eligible for license prior to beginning to provide care); OR current, unrestricted licensure as a Registered Nurse and Acute Care Nurse Practitioner in the State of Nebraska(or eligible for license prior to beginning to provide care).
Master's degree from an ARC-PA approved Physician Assistant program OR bachelor's degree with ten years of current active Physician Assistant experience and approval from the Director of the Office of Advanced Practice OR if bachelor's degree with less than ten years current active experience sign a written agreement consenting to obtain a Master's degree from an ARC-PA approved Physician Assistant program within three years from date of transfer or hire and approval from the Director of the Office of Advanced Practice required. OR Master's or Doctorate degree from an accredited program and current national certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.
Ability to maintain Continuing Medical Education (CME) hours to meet State of Nebraska and NCCPA Certification by the National Commission of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) [Or if new graduate, eligible for certification and certification completed prior to beginning to provide care] required.
Ability to function with autonomy and able to make independent decisions while functioning as part of a comprehensive team required.
Ability to effectively communicate in verbal and written forms required.
Ability to provide critical thinking and analytical skills required.
Efficient use of information systems, data processing systems, telecommunication devices, office equipment, and audiovisual teaching/education resources required.
Ability to comprehend and follow policy, procedure, guidelines and protocols required.
Flexibility and dedication to team involvement and supporting organizational goals required.
Familiar with patient care equipment as appropriate to specialty area required.
Knowledge of health care policy and societal factors affecting the delivery of care required.
Willingness to perform additional designated tasks as assigned within Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner scope of practice; possess stamina to complete long surgical interventions without breaks, to include prolonged standing, manual retraction, lifting of patients with assistance and other associated physical tasks required.
NCCPA Certification by the National Commission of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) required for PA; National Acute Care Certification required for NP
Federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) licensure required.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required, must be from an American Heart Association endorsed program upon first renewal.
ACLS, PALS, or NRP dependent on department required, must be from an American Heart Association endorsed program upon first renewal.
Preferred Qualifications: Lead APP - Critical Care Medicine (Nocturnist)
Prior experience working in an ICU as a Critical Care Medicine Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner preferred.
